· Haunting is one of the best words I can think of to describe Barton Hollow. Strong acoustic guitars laced with piano and cello leave a great folk taste in your mouth. The Duo of Joy Williams and John Paul White work well together. Their vocals on Barton Hollow mix flawlessly. This kind of folk is what my mom raised me on and it’s nice to hear it. That being said, The Civil Wars are not for everyone. I appreciate the quality and polished sound, but I wouldn’t listen to this album on loop or even really more than once.
